Hi Frank.
I tried sending out my newsletter yesterday and got this message.
> Add2it
> > Mailman Free - ERROR
> >
> > Could not connect to socket: Connection refused
I have spoken to my host wh say everything is working normally so do you have any ideas ??

I also found out that my host will only allow a maximum of 99 emails at a time. What a pain.

Regards.
Graham

Writing this has made it occur to me what may be wrong........ My host changed from smtp. to auth.smtp. I changed the settings on my Eudora but I will have to change it on my mailman as well I guess. Would this be the problem ? and if so, where do I make the change ?

About the 99 email limit.... Is there any way to make mailman send out the newsletters in batches instead of all at once ???

Regards.
Graham

Hello Graham,

Yes, you will most likely have to change that in Add2it Mailman Free as well.

In regard to the 99 email limit...

Add2it Mailman Pro has an additional feature to adjust the sending speed almost any way you like.

The question is: What do they mean with 99 emails at a time? 99 emails per minute, hour, or day? How long needs the break in between each block of 99 emails to be?

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank.
All they said is that I am only allowed to send 99 emails at once. I guess that once they are sent I can then send another 99.
They had suggested that the problem I was having was caused by my list being longer than 99 names. ( it wasn't, this was a test going to two of my own email addresses )

Do you know WHERE I change the smtp address in mailman ?

Regards.
Graham

Hello Graham,

Please ask them the following: After the script finished sending 99 messages (which would take about 15 seconds)... how long would the script have to wait before it would be allowed to start with the next batch of 99?

You can change the SMTP server address in the "Script Settings" section of the admin control area.

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Ok. I'm doing that. It will probably take them a while to answer.

Hi Frank.
I am still waiting for oneandone.co.uk to get back to me about time lapses.

I have tried changing the smtp to auth.smtp. but I am still getting the same error message about not finding the socket. Any ideas ?

Regards.

Hello Graham,

Could you please post the exact SMTP server that you used here, plus the exact error message? Also, at what URL did you install the script?

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank.
The server is smtp.oneandone.co.uk - or = auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk

The error I am getting is in the first post ( I dont seem to be able to cut and paste it into this )

The script is on ( I think )
www,tawpia.org ( I am not at home at the moment and I cannot remember which of my sites is controlling it. if you cannot find it try www.abcir.org )

regards.
Graham

Hi Frank.
I have just checked some previous posts from when I was installing mailman. My script is in the
www.abcir.org site.
Cheers

Hi again.
I have just heard back from the webhost.

They say they csnnot reproduce any problem and it must be connected to mailman.

Regarding the 00 emails... they say I can send 99 and then another 99 without any time gap.

It seems it just doesn't like lists longer than 99 names.

Hello Graham,

Is oneandone.co.uk you ISP (Internet Service Provider), or is it your web host? The SMTP server of your ISP usually doesn't work. Please use the SMTP server of your web host instead.

If the domain you installed the script on is abcir.org, then your SMTP server should be something like smtp.abcir.org.

The Add2it Mailman Free / Pro scripts send ony one message at a time... so that should be no problem then.

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank.

oneandone.co.uk is my web host and smtp.oneandone.co.uk is correct. It has worked for the last three newsletters but has suddenly stopped. I have not changed any of the settings to my knowledge.

I have noticed two things.
1... my settings say smtp.oneandone.co.uk... port 25

2... when I first go into the admin screen it has two check boxes asking me if I want to continue an interupted process. the yes box is checked. the only interupted process I am aware of is that it wouldn't let me send the last mailout. ( checking the no box instead makes no difference and the yes box is checked again next time I try )

are either of these relevant ? Could I try a different port ? ( 25 has obviously worked up to now )

I am getting desperate...:)

Regards.

Hello Graham,

Ok, I just checked the oneandone.co.uk FAQ area...

Please try to use the path to Sendmail instead of the SMTP server. Their path to Sendmail is: /usr/sbin/sendmail

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Sorry about this Frank. its getting tedious.

I have tried putting sendmail as
http://www.abcir.org/usr/sbin/sendmail

and

http://www.oneandone.co.uk/usr/sbin/sendmail

but mailman just shows error sendmail address does not exist.

Do you know what the full path should be ? and why it would have worked before on smtp but not now ?

Regards.

Hello Graham,

Just put it as: /usr/sbin/sendmail

Then it will work.

Well Frank......

It sort of worked.... The test mails I sent out appeared to be ok but they have never arrived at the recipients email address ( others of mine )

Hello Graham,

Feel free to add my email address (support @ add2it.com -> without the spaces around the @ character) to a test list. Then send a test message out. I will let you know if it arrives.

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

its 18.38 UK time and I have just sent a test mail including your email address. And as I am writing this my copy has just arrived. I wonder why the last one didn't.

Hi Frank.
As I said above everything is working OK now.... but I have noticed one strange thing.
This was the first time my newsletter has gone out by sendmail rather than SMTP and it was the first time that I nad NO undeliverable bouncebacks......

Was this just good luck or does sendmail not support bouncebacks ???

Regrds
Graham
