Hi Frank,

I know how busy you are - but I could do with some help.

1) I don't think arp is processing my e-mail requests to subscribe in a timely manner.

ie- mail to arp@hypnosistapes-and-cds.com
subject - subscribe MoM

EG ; I have subscribed via e-mail using a yahoo.com address at least a week ago, and the reply took 7 days.

2) The first 20 or so of MoM subscribers was not double opt in, and it is set for DOI now. I think it is looping in some way. Perhaps trying
to double opt in confirm my initial 20 subscribers.

----------------------------------------------
Autoresponder Title: Autoresponder Filename: Subscribers: Unconfirmed

Double Opt-Ins: Unconfirmed Double Opt-Outs:
7 Step guide to Stress and Anxiety 7stp 3 1 0
Environmentally friendly Living envt 3
Miracle of Meditation MoM 78 3934 0
Total: (unique) 84 (71) 3935 (3935) 0 (0)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Autoresponder backlog: 51 messages

3) I have set up a new autoresponder called Environmentally friendly living

- envt.

Set the outgoing details as Julie Kyte from julie@hypnosis.demon.co.uk
and it is defaulting to using the admin details - ME.

ie James Middleton from james@hynosis.demon.co.uk

Please help.

James

Hi James,

Ok, the problem with this has been that the filter.pl script did not get called and there had been already over 100 emails been waiting in the arp mailbox to be processed.

When I called the filter.pl file manually in my browser, a part of those messages have been processed, so the filter.pl script itself works properly.

I then checked the crontab file in your etc directory.

It contains the necessary lines...

0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * /www/h/y/hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/htdocs/arp/schedule.pl
2,7,12,17,22,27,32,37,42,47,52,57 * * * * /www/h/y/hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/htdocs/mmp/schedule.pl
1,6,11,16,21,26,31,36,41,46,51,56 * * * * /www/h/y/hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/htdocs/arp/filter.pl
3,8,13,18,23,28,33,38,43,48,53,58 * * * * /www/h/y/hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/htdocs/mmp/filter.pl
4,9,14,19,24,29,34,39,44,49,54,59 * * * * /www/h/y/hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/htdocs/arp/bounce.pl
4,9,14,19,24,29,34,39,44,49,54,59 * * * * /www/h/y/hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/htdocs/mmp/bounce.pl

But for some reason only the first two are executed.

Please ask your web hosts technical support staff why this is the case.

If they can't help you... please add this lines of HTML code to the bottom of your sites index page instead...

<script language="JavaScript1.1" src="http://www.hypnosistapes-and-cds.com /arp/schedule.pl"></script>
<script language="JavaScript1.1" src="http://www.hypnosistapes-and-cds.com /mmp/schedule.pl"></script>

I also took a look inside the data/doils/Mom file and noticed that flowingdragon@*****.co.uk, dr_remmiz@*****.com, triciathatsit@*****.com, panoulis123@*******.com, superwandita@*******.com, adaystar@***.com and kayessben@*****.com and been listed very often in the file.

Could it be that you setup a mail forwarding from
james@********.demon.co.uk or returnto-arp@*************-***-***.com to arp@*************-***-***.com?

You could also try changing the returnto-arp@*************-***-***.com mailbox to returntoarp@*************-***-***.com (also in the script settings).

The messages you saved for this autoresponder will use the name and email address you saved with them.

Only the unsubscribe confirmation emails will always use the name and email address entered under the "Scripts Settings" section.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the reply.

I have written to my webhosts support to ask them about the cron job.

1) In case they cannot help, where exactly do I place the html code lines you suggest in my website?

**********************
If they can't help you... please add this lines of HTML code to the bottom
of your sites index page instead...
**********************

Should I place them in my index.htm file for the directory arp?

id; http://www.hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/arp/index.htm

Or in my main index page at my site?

http://www.hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/index.htm

2) I cannot find any unusual forwarding that you suggest is possible in my Script settings for arp.

I have as you suggested changed the returnto-arp@ ... to returntoarp@..........

***********************
You could also try changing the returnto-arp@*************-***-***.com
mailbox to returntoarp@*************-***-***.com (also in the script settings)
***********************

3) What do you suggest I do with my data MoM file?

Would you recommend I edit and remove all the repeated subscribers that you mention? Doi count is now 7012 for a total of 112 subscribers ;-) So it seems it is still looping.

Or remove all the entries that are more than one, or delete the file, so that it can start again?

**************************
I also took a look inside the data/doils/Mom file and noticed that flowingdragon@*****.co.uk, dr_remmiz@*****.com,
**************************

Thanks for your help,

Warm regards,

James

Hi James,

1) You would add the HTML code to your main index page at your site...
http://www.hypnosistapes-and-cds.com/index.htm

You can also add it (additionally) to any other busy web page you might have.

2) You need to look for that in your web servers control panel (e.g. cPanel).

3) You can simply leave those double opt-in / opt-out entries in the file. Those will be automatically deleted within 30 days.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the reply.

1) Is there anyway to clear the doi unconfirmed info - as obviously it is totally inaccurate. And set the figure to zero?

2) It still seems to be looping - as the count is now up to 7142 (7142) and there is no way I have had more than about 150 people trying to join the autoresponder ;-) (Although I wish I had).

Warm regards,

James

Hi James,

1) What you could do is to manually edit the MoM file in your arp/data/doils directory. But you don't have to as the not acted upon requests will be automnatically deleted after 30 days.

2) As you use arp@hypnosistapes-and-cds.com as your subscribe & unsubscribe email address, make sure you don't use it anywhere else, e.g. don't use it as the admin email address or return-path / errors-to email adress etc.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank,

Many thanks for the reply.

I'll leave the doi data file, and see if it sorts itself out after 30 days, as you suggest.

I'm pretty sure this e-mail address arp@hypnosistapes-and-cds.com has not been used anywhere else, I have checked the script settings, but maybe I'm missing something ;-)

Hi James,

Have you also checked your email forwarding settings in your servers control panel?

Warm regards,

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the reply, and no I hadn't thought of checking there.

I have had a look at the mail settings in my Servers Control panel.

It all looks a bit confusing to me though, and I cannot really make very much sense of the settings.

With my inexperienced eye it, nothing looks out of the ordinary ;-)

DOI unconfirmed count is still madly increasing though and is now at 7261.

Warm regards,

James

Hi James,

I took another look into your control panel and your script settings. It all looks fine.

Then I checked into the log file changes over a 2 hour period to see what exactly was happening when the cron-job called the filter.pl script.

I noticed that the script got called properly once every 5 minutes, but didn't seem to be able to finish it's job all the way to the end... the erasing of the subscribe request in the POP3 box didn't happen.

Then I finally found the reason! Your server didn't allow the bind() command if called through a cron-job (if called in a browser window it worked properly).

So I switched the use of the bind() command off in the variables.pl file ( $dontbind = 0; ) and now it works properly without the evergrowing list of opt-in requests. :-)

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank,

That's great!

Thanks so much for fixing this.

I'm curious why it wasn't happening with my other 2 autoresponder courses- 7 step anxiety and Environmentally friendly Living.

They never seemed to have had this problem ;-)
And both of these have been fine from the start.

Warm regards,

James

Hi James,

The "Environmentally friendly Living" autoresponder wasn't set to double opt-in. So for this one you wouldn't have see that effect.

But the "7 step" autoresponder had been. Hmmm... but on this one you had so far only 5 subscribers.

Well, it's anyway weird that the server can't handle the bind() comand during cron-jobs only.

Let's just be happy that it works now.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the reply - and I hadn't meant to set "Environmental Friendly Living" Auto for non- DOI.

Thanks for letting me know.

I have corrected that, and it is now DOI, as are all of the autos.

I'm still not sure the DOI unconfirmed is sorting itself out for "MoM" Auto as the count is still rising at 7319 ;-)

Any ideas, or do you think it will just sort itself out after 30 days, when it resets itself?

Warm regards,

James

Hi James,

While testing I added myself over 50 times to the list... that's why it raised since the last time you checked.

They will disapear in 30 days.

Frank Bauer
