Frank,

I've been having problems getting through the registration phase.

I can get as far as 'Click here to finish Add2It Mailman Free registration', it then goes to the 'Add List' page and then immediately on to the index.pl page with the extended address of
---
/index.pl?newpass2=F9HKEQzqypiN4||20030201-2206-SH-FP|| eng||PRFBO3ZN78lFc
---
On back-tracking to the 'Add List' page, it is only a partial page with a 'Transmission stopped' message at the bottom.

I've been having this sort of problem since I first accessed the admin.pl page.

Steve

Hello Steve,

In general... you should access the Admin area with the index.pl file.

What exactly is the problem... what error message do you get after entering your order number and password?

Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hi Frank,

Thanks for coming back so soon.

After entering the order number and password, I get taken to the confirmation page. Now, whether I click on the 'Finish registration ' button or not, I end up on the blank index.pl page without really seeing anything of the 'Add List' page.

By pressing the browser Back button once, I end up on the incomplete 'Add List' page, with the error message 'Transmission Stopped!' at the bottom.

There are no other error messages and the index.pl page is always blank.

It's easy to see the 'Add List' page is incomplete, because the amount of information on it varies each time I've tried.

The furthest I've got so far is to the second message box, but no sign of a 'Save Settings' button.

Hope this makes a bit more sense.

Regards

Steve

Hello Steve,

Did you change anything in the variables.pl file? At which URL could I take a look at your installation?

Hello Steve,

As it looks like, the problem is that your web host adds some HTML code to the top of the web page in a way that it interferes with the HTML code of the script.

Can that behavior of your web host be turned off?
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hello Frank,

Thanks. I got rid of the web hosts banner and that seems to have worked.

The next problem is the password.

I login using the password I received by email, complete the Add List page, then click on the Add List button. I'm then told that the password is wrong. When I click the button to send for a new one, I get the following error message:

Undefined subroutine &main::password called at admin.pl line 1661

It can't be a typo because the password was copied & pasted.

Regards

Steve

Hello Steve,

Ok... you discovered a bug there in version 1.81. I will email you 1.82b by email attachment.

Simply install it over your current installation and call the install.pl script in your browser.

All settings, lists and subscribers will remain.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hello Frank,

Thanks for the 1.82b version.

I eventually got it set up and configured, then tried to add subscribers manually and then from my webpage through the html code given.

When I tried to login to the Admin Control Centre, I got the following error message:
----
The password you entered was not correct. If you want to try again, please go back to the login page. If you forgot your password, please click on the button below to get a new password by email.
----
When I click on the button, it takes me back to the login page.

I've been to

http://add2it.com/e-shop/download-area.pl

and tried changing the password, this doesn't work either. Everytime I change the password and save it, the next time I go into the download area, the password has reverted back to thirteen characters. Even changing it to a thirteen character password doesn't work.

I've also tried bypassing the password by adding ?pass=<admin-password>, but all this does is take me straight to the original error message.

Regards

Steve}

I'm getting a similar problem. I just downloaded the latest upgrade for add2itmailer, ver 1.80, I successfully completed the installation, but the admin.pl won't let me log in using the password I created during setup.

I checked the configuration data file and it appears fine, yet I keep getting kicked back to the admin.pl when I try to log in.

The url for the admin.pl is:
http://www.fa-ct.com/cgi-bin/admin.pl

Hello Steve & Marilynn,

Marilynn: Please update to the current version of Add2it Mailman Free 1.82. A whole bunch of bugs have been fixed since 1.80.

Steve: Just two tips...

1. Only the last new password that has been emailed to you will work.

2. Adding ?pass=<admin-password> will not bypass the password... if you replace <admin-password> with the correct admin password you just don't have to enter it manually anymore.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

I downloaded 1.82, unzipped it and uploaded it to my cgi-bin. The scripts won't work unless they're right out in the cgi-bin, subdirectories give me forbidden errors. Well, after checking permissions, I go to run the install.pl script again, and I get forbidden errors. I change permissions on both the cgi-bin and install.pl to 777 instead of 755 and still I get forbidden errors. Is there a lock file I need to delete somewhere? I ordered 3 licenses because I had planned on using one for myself, one for a client of mine, and a spare in case its needed. My client has an older version installed and its working well. I won't be upgrading them if I can't get the new version to work.

I don't understand why suddenly the install.pl is giving me forbidden errors.

Hello Marilynn,

No, there is no lock file that needs to be deleted.

Did you upload the .htaccess file? If you did, please delete it again. Now try calling the install.pl file again in your browser. Is that error message gone?
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

.htaccess files get hidden on the server and I can't see them from ws_ftp pro even when I tell it to show all hidden files. I deleted the entire installation and uploaded all the files for 1.82 again. I cleared my Netscape memory and disk cache to be sure I wasn't pulling cached pages, double-checked permissions, and still got the forbidden error.

I accidentally deleted another cgi program I had installed when I wiped out add2itmailer. And after putting that back on the server, even it was giving me the forbidden error messages.

I have sent my host an email asking about the cgi-bin this morning and I hope to get a positive response from them.

This may be a server issue and not a script issue now. If I get a response saying that my cgi-bin is fine, then I'll have to get more info from you on how to fix this.

Thanks.

Hello Marilynn,

The problem might still be the uploaded .htaccess file. Even if you can't see it... try uploading an empty .htaccess file. This should take care of it.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Ok, I uploaded a blank .htaccess.

I get through the registration fine, but when I click to add the first list after setting up all the first list's settings, I get sent back to the setup screen. Any idea why this is happening?

Hello Marilynn,

Very unusual... please check again if all files (execpt .htaccess of course :-)) are uploaded in ASCII mode. Also check if the config.dat file has been created in the data subdirectory.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Hello Marilynn,

I just had anothe idea... is kind of sounds like the problem is, that the script can't write the new lists data into the lists.dat (in the data directory) or one of the these subdirectories:

- data/auto
- data/html
- data/lists
- data/logs
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Yes the config.dat file was created, and when I get kicked back to the setup screen, it remembers everything I had put in there minus the password. I checked the permissions of the other directories and they are all set to 777, but all that is in them is the index.html file. What else could be causing the issue with not being able to write to these directories besides permissions?

Hello Marilynn,

Try changing all file and directory permissions back to CHMOD 755 instead of 777. Some servers don't like 777 because it can be a security risk.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Ok I changed the folder permissions to 755 and ran through from set up to the list creation again, and again, when I hit "add list", I got kicked back to the setup screen, with all my original setup info intact.

This is strange behaviour.

Hello Marilynn,

I was able to get it to work. I simply deleted the config.dat file from the data directory before I called the index.pl script.

BTW: I used you FTP password as the Admin area access password.
Sincerely,

Frank Bauer

Thanks. I will remember that if I run up against the same issue when I put the script on a client's site.

I have two more licenses I can finally put to use now that this one is working.

Thanks so much.
