Bell #2 Become a MLM Leader If you've been around MLM for any number of years you'll recognize the names of Linda J. Bruton, Robert Blackman, Don Mikrut, and several other MLM giants*. What do they all have in common? They're all MLM leaders. What is an MLM leader? What do they do differently than other MLM'ers? Simple. They work smart, not hard. They find ways to make one-time effort count thousands of times over. And they apply "The Six Keys to MLM Success". Being a MLM leader means regularly supporting your downline with ready-made sales and marketing materials, offering to help them get started by making phone calls and sales presentations for them. And sometimes it even means enrolling a few people into their downline just to get them in profit and productive right away. It also means communicating with masses of people, and most importantly it means you stand out as someone who's setting the pace for others to follow. True leaders set themselves apart by creating their own unique marketing materials, writing books, and conducting seminars, and producing their own cassettes for their downlines and other MLM'ers to use and benefit from instead of simply mailing and distributing the same postcards and sales letters that every other MLM'er in their companies are using. Often MLM leaders stand so far apart from the crowd that many MLM'ers recognize the name of the leader but cannot remember the name or nature of the MLM company that the leader is promoting. This is because the leader has become the message, not the product or MLM company. One of the strongest examples of MLM leadership is Don Mikrut. If you ask 100 MLM'ers to tell you who Don Mikrut is and the name of his book, they will tell you he's the author of, "How To Make America Strong & Wealthy One Person At A Time". Now ask them the name of the MLM(s) that Don Mikrut is promoting and 60% to 80% couldn't tell you. This is because Don Mikrut has become bigger than the programs that he's promoting. The same is true of many other MLM leaders. In the minds of many MLM'ers, these leaders are larger than the programs that they are promoting. You too must become a leader if you want to succeed into the top 1% to 3% of all MLM'ers. Even if you do not wish to be in the top, you must become a leader if you want to guarantee yourself success beyond the 97% of MLM'ers who never earn commission checks for more than $200. In fact, becoming a leader is one of the most critical steps in "The Six Keys to MLM Success". For the past 20 years I've studied what other MLM'ers were doing. It seems the number one key for the average MLM'er to excel beyond the mediocre 97% fail rate is to become a MLM leader. How do you create such materials? You simply look to see what others are doing and imitate what is working for them. In Anthony Robbins book “Unlimited Power” he calls imitating successful people’s actions modeling. In essence you model the effective behaviors and actions of the those who are succeeding at what you wish to succeed at. For example, Don Mikrut has written a money making book about making America strong and wealthy. Maybe you can write a book or booklet about making your state, county, or city wealthy through participation in MLM. Maybe you can write about what you have learned about making money while owning your own MLM business. Writing a book or booklet is just one idea. Linda J. Bruton has written a 12 month MLM course. All 12 courses have probably been written and pre-printed, but she continues to sell them each month on a subscription basis. What this means is that you can write 12 booklets or special reports and sell them on a subscription basis too. Other MLM leaders have created cassettes that they convince MLM'ers to buy and give away "free" to anyone interested in making money. You could do the same. Record a MLM cassette and convince your downline to buy them at cost or a small profit so that they can distribute the cassettes to prospective MLM'ers who will end up in your downline. Whatever successful MLM leaders are doing to succeed you must do the same. You must do what they are doing, not necessarily what they are telling you to do! The difference between doing what they are doing and what they tell you to do is that they may be making money by selling a MLM cassette through their downline. That cassette may talk about how wonderful their MLM company is, but in actuality they may be earning several hundred thousand dollars or several million dollars from the distribution of the cassette --regardless of the money being made from the sell of the products. That's why you need to make sure that you find out if they are succeeding because of their MLM program or in spite of it. That way you can duplicate their true actions and you can also become a MLM success. If you are a do-it yourself’er and you wish to create your own marketing materials and sales pieces there are several great resources available to you. Try reading just about anything by Jeffrey Lant, Paul and Sarah Edwards, Al Reis and Jack Trout, Jay Conrad Levinson, and Herman Holtz. Of these, Jeffrey Lant may prove to be the best source of general information because he almost always mentions additional resources, authors, and other professionals who can help you succeed in your sales and marketing efforts. Some of these resources are available free at your local library.
