One of the main reasons for this, is the amount of websites that invite you to join their list as soon as you enter their site. By my estimate, I say at least 90% of all websites have some sort of “sign-up” or “subscriber” option on their site. Surfers are saying that this is more and more becoming a nuisance. Therefore you really have to spend more time and effort to attract them as subscribers. Here are a few things that you can do to increase your chances at getting their email address. 1. Make it as simple and easy to join. Don’t mess around with complicated forms that asks the subscriber to fill out their life life’s history. All you really need is their name and email address. Which will not only allow you to send them your message, but with their name you can personalize it. 2. Don’t let them have to search your site to find the subscribe box. Use an on-entry pop box, in most cases they are fast loading and the visitor cannot miss it. If you need help creating an on-entry pop box, go to: http://javascript.internet.com/generators/popup-window.html Fill out the specifications of the popup window you would like to use, including the URL and the various options such as menu bars, toolbars, scrollbars, etc, and click the generate button. It’s that easy! 3. If you’re publishing a newsletter or training ezine, sell them on the content. In other words, point out some of the key features or benefits of becoming a subscriber. Bullets tend to work great when highlighting key points! 4. Unsolicited email (SPAM) is an ever-present concern of subscribers. Assure them that their information is secure with you. -> For a great example of how an effective subscriber box should look, go to: http://www.ilovemlm.com. As the page loads a small window should also open (pop-up). Pay attention to how the following key areas are addressed: - simple to sign-up (name / email address) - privacy - clean and easy to read - key points / benefits are highlighted by bullets - notice the FREE book giveaway? 5. Provide an extra incentive to subscribe (the FREE book giveaway in the example above). Remember at the start I mentioned that I estimate that 90% of all websites invites visitors to join their list? What percent of that offer a free newsletter or ezine? I cannot give you an exact number, but I would safely guess, ALL. By giving away the free book with subscriptions, makes this unique. Offer then a free download or report, give them something exclusive and your odds at getting them as a subscribe just increased. 6. Don’t just settle for the on-entry pop-up box that appears when your main page loads. Experiment with the same idea, but have the box open on exit (when the visitor leaves your site). Take it another step and include a resource or “sub” box on all your main pages. Go to : http://www.ilovemlm.com/faq.htm at the bottom of that page you will see how this marketer uses a resource box at the bottom of their pages to build their list. By combining the on-entry sub box, with the resource box at the bottom of pages, makes it almost impossible for the visitor to not see the subscription box. 7. People don’t know weather your newsletter contains pure crap or gold. A great way to add validity to your newsletter is to have someone else tell them. Try including a testimonial within your pop-box or submit form, from a current subscriber. Remember anyone can make a claim on having the greatest newsletter. By including the testimonial it will at least, generate curiosity. 8. On the thank you page after they subscribe (yes you need to thank them for subscribing), ask them if any of their friends or colleagues would be interested in subscribing. See example here: http://www.ilovemlm.com/book.htm. It’s a simple form that they enter their friends email address and you can send them an auto-responder message on how to join. You can also have a short line of text in every email you send out “feel free to forward this message to your friends”. This way you can have your current subscribers build your list for you. Pictures can help your prospects mentally visualize your offer. They can help support your product claims. Some pictures also grab your prospect's attention. Below are eight ways pictures can give you an unfair advantage. 1. Customers Pictures - Show pictures of customers actually using your product. For example, if you were selling a muscle building video you could show one of your customers flexing his/her muscles and smiling. 2. Non Customer Pictures - Publish pictures of those who didn't buy your product. For example, if you were selling a muscle building video you could show one of your non customers looking very skinny and frowning. 3. Before and After Pictures - Show the customer and non customer pictures side by side. For example, if your were selling a weight loss video show a picture of a person who is overweight and a picture of them after they used your product. 4. End Result Pictures - Use pictures that show the end results. For example, if you were selling an ebook about raising your grades show a picture of a person graduating. 5. Attention Pictures - Publish unusual pictures to grab people's attention. For example, if you were selling business suits you could have a picture of a person wearing one that has a mohawk. 6. Credibility Pictures - Show pictures that represent you as an expert. For example, if you were selling computer classes you could be in the picture holding your degree. 7. Imagination Pictures - Use pictures that don't have people in them, but show the results of your product. For example, if you were selling a vacation to Florida show a picture of beach with topical palm trees. 8. Testimonial Pictures - Publish pictures of people that give you testimonials or endorsements. For example, if you were selling medical equipment show a picture of doctor who gave you a good testimonial. They're hundreds of persuasive ways to use pictures. The results of the survey: -------------------------- 1. How do you get Leads to sign up for your business? I send personal emails but hear nothing back from them. (Question submitted by: Mary Smith) Tony Rigby: "Hi Mary, Selling is getting tough now, but as you do, I send the prospects emails making sure their questions are fully answered. This used to be very successful awhile ago, but folks just aren't buying a lot nowadays compared to last year. But polite, professional, personal emails is still the best technique I know of and still works. It is all just a numbers game, get enough prospects and you will get enough sales. Supposingly :)" Jennie Hasselbacher: "Pick up the phone! If you are sending personal emails, ask them for their phone number, and the best time to call them. Then let them know that you WILL be calling them, because you are excited about helping them learn about your awesome program! Yes, you will get some rejections, perhaps even hang-ups. But in the long run, most are at least willing to listen, many will at least TRY your program, and some will stick with you. But they need to know that there is a REAL person to support them.... not just MORE EMAIL!!" Audra Gehrke: "Statistics show that people need to see your ad at least 7 times before they buy. You just have to keep advertising everyday until you do start to see results. Never give up. If you don't hear back from them in about a week or so then send them another update. The more no's you get through the more yes's you will get. Not everyone will reply to you which is good because you only want the serious people anyways." C.E. Bird: "Email and the internet is a great tool for making initial contact, however, some people (me included) feel much more comfortable about an opportunity after hearing the person on the other end of the phone! I try to get in touch with all new leads within 48 hours via telephone." Emilie Boyles: "I combine education in a particular area with an offer to send future educational emails that do not include sales. This is working very well." Warren Contreras: "I offer them a 7 day course on why MLM has failed so many poor souls over the last 50 years of it's existence. The information is so compelling I get a very good response." Sam Reichgott: "It's always a two step process. Step 1) use a Safelist, FFA confirmation, traffic exchange, or any vehicle to get the first exposure. That exposure ideally gets the prospect to opt-in to an autoresponder for more information. Step 2) is to get multiple exposures using an autoresponder. I find that by 3-5 e-mails the prospect either opts-out or signs up. Rarely do they sign-up after the first exposure. Comments: Great responses... thank you folks. :) To wrap it all up: Contact them over and over until they are ether sold or tell you to leave them alone + consider calling your prospects. ... never ever give up. 2. What vehicle is most effective in increasing web traffic / sales? (Question submitted by: Judi Dilworth) Tony Rigby: "Traffic: search engines if you can spare the time and money to hire a pro to help you or learn yourself. Ezines work well still. I'm looking into pop under marketing firms currently e.g http://hitmanpro.com etc. I think this type of promotion is the newest and well worth trying, I'm going to set up a campaign soon, their plans sound great. Sales: personal, prompt, professional, email to your prospects without hype, honest sounding emails will always be more convincing in my book. It is all about communication." Eddy Sugianto: "Search Engine, Pay per Click, Paid Optin- Safemail and Rotator. I tried now with Message board. How to get the most cost effective traffic in most critical survival in the internet business. But I do not find one yet in the internet, as every body just repeat what another competitors are doing." Jennie Hasselbacher: "Offline advertising in FREE newspapers... especially in college towns and high-tech states - like Virginia. And, of course, regular submission to the Search Engines! Finding the right ISP, Host, Web Design, Marketing System, and Promotional Services can be lengthy and frustrating when trying to start your new online business. After researching and evaluating several different ideas for each area of your Business Plan, it is IMPERITIVE that you WRITE OUT THIS PLAN!! Then - FOLLOW IT! Continue evaluating, testing and surveying your clients/customers, to be sure you "tweak" your site and system on a regular basis, for the best, and most profitable returns. DO NOT follow the "pros" - there are literally MILLIONS of self-acclaimed "Pros" on the Net - that are NOT successful! Create your OWN "System" - and STICK to what works!" Audra Gehrke: "There's so many ways to advertise you really have to just test and find what works best for you. For me the ezines are the Best for advertising. Solo ads in particular work the best because your ad is the Only ad being seen. There's no other ads just yours and that means Maximum exposure for you. Second, you can target your audience with ezine advertising. Go to a search engine and put in ezine directories, go check them out and find the ezines that best target your market. The other Best thing for driving hits to your site is to have your own ezine or newsletter. You can keep people updated about your site etc. and this also bring repeat visitors back to your site." C.E. Bird: "Depending on your site and its subject matter this could be anything from ezine ads to print classifieds to a radio spot on your local station. Most importantly you need to target people who can solve their problem via your site / service!" Emilie Boyles: "Word of mouth. I increased our web sales 2000% last year. We added our web info to our printed materials and, just like our catalog, customers referred other customers. At my 'day job' site and other sites I work on locally, I have found that top-notch customer service equals referrals from other customers. Sites I work with that do not provide immediate resolve customer service do not gain long-term customers and referrals." Sheri Stuart: "I get the most hits from startpage generators, I get more signups from my safelist and ezine ads. I just wanted to say that to promote and expand any business, all avenuses must be used in conjuction, and it is important to remember to follow the rules of each opportunity concerning correspondence with your downline. I have a few programs that only allow me to correspond with my downline concerning their opportunity or service, and still others where you are encouraged to involve your downline there with others opportunities. Also, local print advertisements are great lead generators when others will fail, especially in neighborhood shopping circulars and newpapers, as readers of these media are in 'search mode' already, whch makes it a sort of anonyumous warm market. And-one thing I learned from my upline sponsor - the telephone is crucial to both customer relationships, as well as maintaining and increasing your organization. Most important-don't limit your business to just the Internet - There is a huge pool of prospects that has no idea what the Internet is all about, and the only way to communicate with them is through the US Mail, Print advertising and the TELEPHONE." Sam Reichgott: "I personally like ezine or print classifieds, and safelists, for getting that first view (i.e. traffic). You need to promise something FREE, or have an incredible headline though! Once the prospect is on site you fork over the freebee, at the cost of opting-in to your autoresponder. Then use the best benefit-based sales text you've got to get them back for the purchase." Comments: Again... great responses. Most, including me, still believe that ezine advertisement is the best vehicle. But also search engines, safelists and offline newspapers belong to the favorites of many business owners. 3. How should I use autoresponders? (Question submitted by: Warren Contreras) Tony Rigby: "Carefully! Autoresponders are great, better than great if used properly. Do not write hypey sales letters, they once worked, not now. People want to be spoken TO not AT, they must be read as if the prospect was talking to you personally, so many go wrong here. No more than 2 per week nowadays due to the amount of emails people are getting in my opinion. Then again some set them to send daily or every 2nd and they work, trial and error I guess. :) Make sure your prospect can easily stop further messages too." Daniel Verdino: "Automatically :) .... There is only one way to use autoresponders and that is to create about ten letters and space them out about 3 days apart. Make them spiffy and not boring. No put hype in them and just tell the truth. You don't want someone signing up because of hype only to find out it was bogus info." Bonnie Archer: "At the end of your ad you tell them to send an email to your autoresponder for more information. And you should have at least 7 letters ready on your autoresponder to go out at different intervals all working to sell your affiliate program or what every it is you are selling. Once it is set up it is so easy and works great to sell your product!" Jennie Hasselbacher: "ONLY as an ADDITION to your Personal Emails and phone calls! Use a Personal Email to welcome new members, and INVITE them to subscribe to your autoresponder.... Read the incredible eBook 'AutoResponder Magic' for other great uses!" Audra Gehrke: "For follow up or to offer a free report. Never use them for spamming." C.E. Bird: "Autoresponders are great for delivery of free reports or courses and can be helpful in keeping your opportunity in front of a prospect over time." Sheri Stuart: "I have set mine up with a message sequence that informs about one opportunity, with mailings about 3 days apart. All the mailings include information about my opportunity, an encouraging message, and sometines a helpful hint or tip. Each autoresponder has about 1 month of messages, on a 3 day cycle. I also use a separate autoresponder for each opportunity or service, as well as one to contact variosu downline members." Sam Reichgott: "One effective way is to build curiosity with a short, punchy one-page site with a Web Form. You can put this in a traffic exchange, or purchase traffic, etc.) The Web Form automatically populates the Autoresponder when your prospect enters name & e-mail. ( example: http://www.netcashline.homestead.com/mintform.html ) Your autoresponder text is key. If you're building a networking business you must promise personal assistance. Then you must deliver it! If you're selling a product your letters must stress benefits (save time, save money, lose weight, etc.) over features." Comments: Automated follow up systems that send messages out every x days over a period of a month or longer really seem to be great way to promote your business.
